The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 3,881% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Ukraine (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main destinations of frozen pork carcase exports from Denmark, together accounting for 58% of total exports. Germany, the Czech Republic, Croatia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 677% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 744% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen pork carcase to Denmark, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen pork carcase imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +23.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+30.8% per year) and Italy (-38.8% per year).
