In 2021, purchases abroad of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes decreased by -13.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 63%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, crude glycerol imports rose to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 79%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest crude glycerol supplier to Denmark, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, crude glycerol imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Norway (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +13.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+34.2% per year) and Norway (+38.2% per year).
