In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes exports from Denmark, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Ireland, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy stood at +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (-4.9% per year) and Ireland (+8.2% per year).

The average crude glycerol export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a precipitous slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Denmark
In 2021, purchases abroad of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes decreased by -13.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 63%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, crude glycerol imports rose to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 79%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest crude glycerol supplier to Denmark, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, crude glycerol imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Norway (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +13.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+34.2% per year) and Norway (+38.2% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes to Denmark, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Norway, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+28.2% per year) and Norway (+44.3% per year).

In 2021, the average crude glycerol import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
