In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Danish hardboard market, when its value decreased by -18.3% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, posted a resilient expansion. Hardboard consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X cubic meters), Sweden (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of hardboard exports from Denmark, together accounting for 60% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +83.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for hardboard exported from Denmark were Germany ($X), Sweden ($X) and Norway ($X), with a combined 62% share of total exports. Faroe Islands, the United States, Belgium, France and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

The average hardboard export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, with an increase of 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 23%. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Denmark
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of hardboard decreased by -23.1% to X cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, hardboard imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 99% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X cubic meters) constituted the largest hardboard supplier to Denmark, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, hardboard imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X cubic meters), with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +21.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+35.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+56.8% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hardboard to Denmark, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +18.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+21.6% per year) and Lithuania (+103.4% per year).

The average hardboard import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 35% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Sweden ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
