Sweden (X tons) was the main destination for lentil exports from Denmark, with a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, lentil exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Finland (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Sweden stood at +7.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (+18.5% per year) and Iceland (-10.6% per year).
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for lentils exports from Denmark, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lentil export price increased by +34.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iceland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Denmark
For the ninth year in a row, Denmark recorded growth in supplies from abroad of lentils, which increased by 6.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, lentil imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Canada (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of lentil imports to Denmark, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Italy, Germany, Argentina and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +40.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Canada ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the largest lentil suppliers to Denmark, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Germany, Italy, the UK and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
