In value terms, molluscs imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +87.0% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Faroe Islands (X tons) constituted the largest molluscs supplier to Denmark, accounting for a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, molluscs imports from Faroe Islands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Vietnam (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Faroe Islands stood at +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+1.7% per year) and Vietnam (-1.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest molluscs suppliers to Denmark were Vietnam ($X), Faroe Islands ($X) and Canada ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. Spain, China, the Netherlands, Morocco, India, New Zealand, Indonesia, the United States and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Morocco, with a CAGR of +275.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average molluscs import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Faroe Islands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
