In 2022, overseas shipments of particle board increased by 3% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, particle board exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Sweden (X cubic meters) was the main destination for particle board exports from Denmark, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, particle board exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X cubic meters), with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sweden amounted to +5.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+79.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+43.2% per year).
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for particle board exports from Denmark, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Sweden totaled +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+60.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+34.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average particle board export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Denmark
In 2022, overseas purchases of particle board decreased by -21.4% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, particle board imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Sweden (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of particle board imports to Denmark, with a combined 81% share of total imports. Latvia, France, the Netherlands and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +29.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Sweden ($X) constituted the largest particle board suppliers to Denmark, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Latvia, France, the Netherlands and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +31.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average particle board import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Sweden ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
