Cement Market Size in Denmark

For the seventh year in a row, the Danish cement market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 17% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The third position in this ranking was held by Greenland (X tons), with less than 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sweden totaled +3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (+18.5% per year) and Greenland (+41.0% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for cement exports from Denmark, comprising 2.1% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Norway ($X), with a 0.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Greenland, with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Sweden amounted to +2.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (+17.0% per year) and Greenland (+31.4% per year).

The average cement export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iceland (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of cement decreased by -36.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 44%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cement to Denmark, accounting for a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, cement imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), threefold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+162.2% per year) and Turkey (+4.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cement to Denmark, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+118.1% per year) and Turkey (+5.9% per year).

The average cement import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
