In 2022, the Danish primary cell and battery market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

The Czech Republic (X units), Norway (X units) and Finland (X units) were the main destinations of primary cell and battery exports from Denmark, together comprising 32% of total exports. Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, India, France, Iceland, Greenland, Australia and Faroe Islands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +28.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Norway ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest markets for primary cell and battery exported from Denmark worldwide, together accounting for 36% of total exports. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 83%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 37%. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Overall, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the price for Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
