In 2021, the Danish postcard market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption recorded a prominent expansion. Postcard consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Postcard exports from Denmark reduced sharply to X tons in 2021, dropping by -70.2% against the previous year. In general, exports faced a significant decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, postcard exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a drastic downturn. Norway (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of postcard exports from Denmark, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +41.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average postcard export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 154% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a significant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Postcard imports into Denmark fell to X tons in 2021, dropping by -11.1% compared with 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 39%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, postcard imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.3% against 2018 indices. In 2021, Sweden (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of postcard to Denmark, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, postcard imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sweden totaled +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-3.1% per year) and the Netherlands (-1.0% per year).
