In 2022, supplies from abroad of salt and pure sodium chloride increased by 147% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 220%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, salt imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Tunisia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of salt to Denmark, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, salt imports from Tunisia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), eightfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Tunisia amounted to +30.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+32.2% per year) and Germany (-11.6% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest salt suppliers to Denmark, with a combined 77% share of total imports.
