In general, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Production of Non-Mineral or Non-Aerated Waters in Denmark

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 47%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. In 2021, shipments abroad of non-mineral or non-aerated waters decreased by -41.2% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 395%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 194% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Italy (X litres), China (X litres) and the Netherlands (X litres) were the main destinations of non-mineral or non-aerated water exports from Denmark, with a combined 9.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +148.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for non-mineral or non-aerated waters exports from Denmark, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Norway ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy stood at +29.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Norway (+6.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+70.2% per year).

In 2021, the UK (X litres) constituted the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water supplier to Denmark, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Norway (X litres), sixfold. Turkey (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the UK amounted to +17.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Norway (-2.5% per year) and Turkey (-24.2% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-mineral or non-aerated waters to Denmark, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the UK stood at +28.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Norway (+16.1% per year) and Turkey (-10.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-mineral or non-aerated water import price amounted to $X per litre, with a decrease of -15.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per litre), while the price for Turkey ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+32.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
