The Dominican market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines was estimated at $X in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. Fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines increased by 212% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a dramatic curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Haiti (X tons), Turks and Caicos Islands (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports from the Dominican Republic, together comprising 87% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +96.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Haiti ($X), Turks and Caicos Islands ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest markets for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exported from the Dominican Republic worldwide, with a combined 82% share of total exports. Jamaica, Aruba and British Virgin Islands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, British Virgin Islands, with a CAGR of +150.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 78% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jamaica ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to British Virgin Islands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to British Virgin Islands (+34.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Dominican Republic
In 2021, supplies from abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -0.4% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -1.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Colombia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine to the Dominican Republic, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports from Colombia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Peru (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Chile (X tons), with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Colombia amounted to +15.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+17.1% per year) and Chile (+17.1% per year).
In value terms, Colombia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines to the Dominican Republic, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Colombia amounted to +18.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+21.3% per year) and Chile (+17.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 9.4% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Colombia ($X per ton) and Guatemala ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
