Guatemala (X tons) was the main destination for illuminated sign exports from the Dominican Republic, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, illuminated sign exports to Guatemala exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Panama (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Saint Lucia (X tons), with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Guatemala amounted to +167.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (+118.7% per year) and Saint Lucia (+74.2% per year).

Guatemala, with a CAGR of +245.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates increased by 88% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports enjoyed a tangible expansion. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, illuminated sign imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw modest growth. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of illuminated sign imports to the Dominican Republic, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +63.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
