The average kaolin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Guyana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guyana (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Dominican Republic
In 2021, overseas purchases of kaolin and kaolinic clays were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports recorded a noticeable increase. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, kaolin imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest kaolin supplier to the Dominican Republic, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, kaolin imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Barbados (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Venezuela (X tons), with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Barbados (+13.1% per year) and Venezuela (+24.2% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of kaolin and kaolinic clays to the Dominican Republic, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Barbados ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Venezuela, with a 1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States amounted to +12.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Barbados (+22.5% per year) and Venezuela (+12.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average kaolin import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 42%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
