As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 77%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Haiti (X tons) was the main destination for non-cellular polypropylene film exports from the Dominican Republic, with a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, non-cellular polypropylene film exports to Haiti exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Jamaica (X tons), twofold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip decreased by -9.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -4.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 142%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
