In 2022, purchases abroad of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip increased by 34% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 99% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 130%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-cellular polystyrene film to the Dominican Republic, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, non-cellular polystyrene film imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.
