Costa Rica (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Cuba (X tons) were the main destinations of paper and paperboard exports from the Dominican Republic, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

Imports into the Dominican Republic
In 2022, supplies from abroad of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest paper and paperboard supplier to the Dominican Republic, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, paper and paperboard imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. Colombia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States amounted to -10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+69.7% per year) and Colombia (+134.8% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) to the Dominican Republic, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States totaled -7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+75.2% per year) and the UK (+182.4% per year).

In 2022, the average paper and paperboard import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 34% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 118%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
