From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Haiti (-1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Dominican Republic
For the fifth year in a row, the Dominican Republic recorded growth in purchases abroad of sauces and seasonings, which increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sauce and seasoning imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sauce and seasoning to the Dominican Republic, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, sauce and seasoning imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Costa Rica (X tons), with a 4.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+2.4% per year) and Costa Rica (+7.9% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sauces and seasonings to the Dominican Republic, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+2.1% per year) and Costa Rica (+5.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average sauce and seasoning import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -11.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 19%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
