Exports from the Dominican Republic

In 2022, shipments abroad of trucks increased by 63% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 760%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, truck exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Haiti (X units), the United States (X units) and Colombia (X units) were the main destinations of truck exports from the Dominican Republic, with a combined 85% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turks and Caicos Islands and Spain, which together accounted for a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turks and Caicos Islands (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Haiti ($X) remains the key foreign market for trucks exports from the Dominican Republic, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turks and Caicos Islands ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Haiti totaled -2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turks and Caicos Islands (+30.1% per year) and the United States (+1.4% per year).

The average truck export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -19.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 413%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Haiti ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Haiti (+32.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Dominican Republic

In 2022, the amount of trucks imported into the Dominican Republic soared to X units, growing by 37% on 2021 figures. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, truck imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The United States (X units), Argentina (X units) and Japan (X units) were the main suppliers of truck imports to the Dominican Republic, together accounting for 54% of total imports.
