For the fourth year in a row, the Dominican Republic recorded growth in supplies from abroad of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine), which increased by 41% to X litres in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of wine of fresh grapes to the Dominican Republic, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, wine of fresh grapes imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X litres), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Chile (X litres), with a 13% share.

Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per litre), while the price for Chile ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
