The shipments of the three major exporters of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids, namely China, Japan and South Korea, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 97% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.1%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +13.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 8.2% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, anti-freezing preparations imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

China represented the key importer of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 54% of total imports in 2021. South Korea (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (16%) and Japan (7.2%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to anti-freezing preparations imports into China stood at +2.2%. At the same time, South Korea (+11.8%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012-2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. South Korea (+8.9 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Japan and China saw its share reduced by -3.8% and -8.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in Eastern Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+14.0% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
