Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, butene and isomers thereof exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Korea was the largest exporter of butene (butylene) and isomers thereof in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), mixing up a 22% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
South Korea was also the fastest-growing in terms of the butene (butylene) and isomers thereof exports, with a CAGR of -2.8% from 2012 to 2021. In South Korea, butene and isomers thereof exports plunged by an average annual rate of -6.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-11.9% per year) and Japan (-15.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 22% against the previous year. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-3.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of butene (butylene) and isomers thereof increased by 77% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 205% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, butene and isomers thereof imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
