In value terms, cabbage exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

China prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 97% of total exports in 2022. South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cabbage and other brassicas exports, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest cabbage supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.

In China, cabbage exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2022.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. In 2022, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) represented the key importer of cabbage and other brassicas, committing 77% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), achieving a 16% share of total imports. The following importers - Japan (X tons), Macao SAR (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 6.9% of total imports.

Imports into Hong Kong SAR decreased at an average annual rate of -6.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +1.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Macao SAR (-3.8%), South Korea (-10.5%) and Japan (-18.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +8.9 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cabbage and other brassicas in Eastern Asia, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 1.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hong Kong SAR was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.2% per year) and Japan (-26.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 27% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Macao SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
