Cadmium Market Size in Eastern Asia
In 2022, the East Asian cadmium market increased by 4.1% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of cadmium were exported in Eastern Asia; falling by -30% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 33%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cadmium exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Korea (X tons) was the main exporter of cadmium, comprising 82% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), committing a 15% share of total exports. China (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from South Korea decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+13.1%) and China (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012-2022. While the share of Hong Kong SAR (+12 p.p.) and South Korea (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the largest cadmium supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Korea stood at -1.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+9.1% per year) and China (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 60%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Cadmium Imports
Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of cadmium were imported in Eastern Asia; growing by 4.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cadmium imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 89% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), comprising an 11% share of total imports.
Imports into China decreased at an average annual rate of -4.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR increased by +7.9 percentage points.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cadmium in Eastern Asia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to -8.3%.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (-3.2%).
