Ceramic Tile Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian ceramic tile market declined modestly to $X in 2022, waning by -2.2% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest ceramic tile supplier in Eastern Asia.

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 7.5% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Korea was the major importer of ceramic tiles in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X square meters, which was near 52% of total imports in 2022. Japan (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X square meters), China (X square meters) and Hong Kong SAR (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. 47% share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest ceramic tile importing markets in Eastern Asia were South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, China, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per square meter), while South Korea ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
