In 2021, the East Asian other cereals market decreased by -12.6% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. China was the key importer of other cerealses in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 61% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons), together mixing up a 36% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to other cereals imports into China stood at -2.1%. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+33.0%) and Japan (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +33.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-6.6%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Hong Kong SAR and Japan increased by +14, +5.2 and +4.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported other cerealses in Eastern Asia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 12% share.

In China, other cereals imports expanded at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.2% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+36.6% per year).
