The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 195% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 5.3% of total exports.

Imports in Eastern Asia
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of colouring matter of vegetable or animal origin increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable or animal colouring matter imports rose to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Japan represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 54% of total imports. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons), China (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), together generating a 46% share of total imports.
Imports into Japan decreased at an average annual rate of -2.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+10.8%) and South Korea (+10.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +10.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, China (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Korea (+11 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Japan (-7.2 p.p.) and China (-10 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported colouring matter of vegetable or animal origin in Eastern Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Japan was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+1.7% per year) and South Korea (+12.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
