Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), achieving a 6.2% share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Japan (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Japan and China increased by +4.2 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest common pottery supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports.
In China, common pottery exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.4%).

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, purchases abroad of common pottery increased by 0.7% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 7.6%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, common pottery imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented the key importers of common pottery in 2022, finishing at approx. 42% and 30% of total imports, respectively. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together took near 27% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +3.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest common pottery importing markets in Eastern Asia were South Korea ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 83% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +7.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
