In 2021, the amount of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof exported in Eastern Asia rose notably to X tons, surging by 9.6% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, computing machinery exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the largest exporter of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof, creating 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), creating a 13% share of total exports. The following exporters - Japan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) - each finished at an 8.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to computing machinery exports from China stood at -1.1%. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +5.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-4.6%) and Hong Kong SAR (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +5.5 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest computing machinery supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+3.5% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+13.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof increased by 3.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, computing machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) represented the main importers of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof, together creating 100% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 84% of total imports. South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Among the main importing countries, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +10.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 18% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, computing machinery import price increased by +82.8% against 2015 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
