The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 10%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Japan was the largest importing country with an import of about X square meters, which amounted to 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X square meters), creating a 16% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X square meters), Hong Kong SAR (X square meters) and China (X square meters) took a little share of total imports.

Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of curtains and interior blinds. At the same time, South Korea (+8.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-4.1%) and China (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported curtains and interior blinds in Eastern Asia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Japan was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+5.3% per year) and China (-1.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2022, growing by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per square meter), while South Korea ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
