The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented roughly 69% of total exports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Japan (16%).

Imports in Eastern Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane) decreased by -3.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

South Korea represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 55% of total imports. China (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Japan (12%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (7.9%).

South Korea was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane) imports, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+9.2%) and Japan (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, China (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
