For the third consecutive year, Eastern Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of dairy machinery, which increased by 26% to X units in 2022. Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +46.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 55%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dairy machinery exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 50%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Japan (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), together making up a 12% share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dairy machinery exports, with a CAGR of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Japan (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +6.6 percentage points. For the third year in a row, Eastern Asia recorded decline in supplies from abroad of dairy machinery, which decreased by -52.5% to X units in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 107%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dairy machinery imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X units) and Japan (X units) represented roughly 60% of total imports in 2022. South Korea (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units). All these countries together took near 39% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic People's Republic of Korea (with a CAGR of +51.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dairy machinery in Eastern Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+12.8% per year) and South Korea (-1.5% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year.
