Desktop Computer Market Size in Eastern Asia
For the fourth consecutive year, the East Asian desktop computer market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -21.7% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a noticeable decline. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Desktop Computer Production in Eastern Asia
In value terms, desktop computer production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, approx. X units of desktop computers were exported in Eastern Asia; increasing by 31% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, desktop computer exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China represented the major exporter of desktop computers in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 78% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), achieving a 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Japan (X units) and South Korea (X units) - each amounted to a 4.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from China stood at -5.2%. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.4%) and Japan (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +2.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +7.4 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest desktop computer supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 2.5% share.
In China, desktop computer exports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.0% per year) and Japan (+6.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) and Japan ($X per unit), while South Korea ($X per unit) and China ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+22.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Desktop Computer Imports
Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of desktop computers increased by 8.2% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, desktop computer imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of desktop computer imports in 2021 were Japan (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units), together accounting for 87% of total import. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X units), comprising a 9.7% share of total imports. China (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +31.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest desktop computer importing markets in Eastern Asia were Japan ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +17.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 9.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
