In 2021, the East Asian diode market decreased by -15.9% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, consumption recorded a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes, when their volume increased by 8.6% to X units. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, diode imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Hong Kong SAR was the key importer of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. South Korea (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X units), Japan (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total imports.

Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes. Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +5.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, diode import price increased by +69.5% against 2017 indices.
