The East Asian disperse dye market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Disperse dye exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, jumping by 31% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, disperse dye exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), together making up a 10% share of total exports. Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to disperse dye exports from China stood at -1.2%. At the same time, South Korea (+7.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Korea (+2.8 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of China (-3.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest disperse dye supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.6% share.

In China, disperse dye exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+9.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+13.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 41%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, disperse dye imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented roughly 78% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by China (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together making up a 21% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), South Korea ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 83% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, China, with a CAGR of +11.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye import price decreased by -8.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 26%.
