In 2021, overseas shipments of candied fruits increased by 5.9% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, candied fruit exports reached $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 13%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2021. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of candied fruits. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +4.0% from 2012-2021. For the third consecutive year, Eastern Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of candied fruits, which increased by 24% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, candied fruit imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

China was the key importer of candied fruits in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 66% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (7.7%) and South Korea (7.1%).

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the candied fruits imports, with a CAGR of +36.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+14.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported candied fruits in Eastern Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 5.6% share.

In China, candied fruit imports increased at an average annual rate of +30.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-3.8% per year) and South Korea (+17.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 9.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
