In 2021, exports of electronic chips in Eastern Asia surged to X units, growing by 41% against 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, electronic chip exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 63% of total exports. China (X units) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (12%) and South Korea (8.7%). Japan (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Hong Kong SAR was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electronic chips exports, with a CAGR of +20.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+16.5%), China (+6.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Hong Kong SAR (+30 p.p.) and South Korea (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of China (-7.3 p.p.), Japan (-9.5 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-15.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 80% of total exports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +15.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 7.1% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of electronic chips increased by 0.8% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, electronic chip imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +119.5% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Hong Kong SAR was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 57% of total imports. China (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Japan (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units). All these countries together took near 39% share of total imports. South Korea (X units) took a little share of total imports.
Hong Kong SAR was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electronic chips imports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, China (+3.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Japan (-5.4%) and South Korea (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hong Kong SAR (+11 p.p.) and China (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Korea and Japan saw its share reduced by -4% and -8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest electronic chip importing markets in Eastern Asia were China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), together comprising 89% of total imports.

Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, electronic chip import price increased by +46.3% against 2013 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
