Fluorspar Market Size in Eastern Asia

After three years of growth, the East Asian fluorspar market decreased by -8.7% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +102.2% against 2017 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Fluorspar Production in Eastern Asia

In value terms, fluorspar production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +103.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports in Eastern Asia

In 2021, overseas shipments of fluorspar were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 19%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorspar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 65%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), constituting an 8.4% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -7.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+53.8%) and Hong Kong SAR (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +53.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +6 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest fluorspar supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports.

In China, fluorspar exports plunged by an average annual rate of -6.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+15.6% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+44.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Fluorspar Imports

Imports in Eastern Asia

After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of fluorspar decreased by -6.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, fluorspar imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 78% of total imports in 2021. South Korea (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Japan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 17% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorspar imports, with a CAGR of +20.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.3%) and Japan (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +50 percentage points.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorspar in Eastern Asia, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +21.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-9.1% per year) and South Korea (+4.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
