The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, fresh chicken cut exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 196%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In 2022, China (X tons) represented the major exporter of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken in Eastern Asia, creating 100% of total export.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fresh or chilled cuts of chicken exports, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +59 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2022, purchases abroad of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken decreased by -29% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 121%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, fresh chicken cut imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 86% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) represented the major importer of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken, mixing up 78% of total imports. Macao SAR (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (6%).
Hong Kong SAR was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fresh or chilled cuts of chicken imports, with a CAGR of +30.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+26.8%) and Macao SAR (+25.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Hong Kong SAR (+22 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled cuts of chicken in Eastern Asia, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Macao SAR ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.
In Hong Kong SAR, fresh chicken cut imports increased at an average annual rate of +24.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Macao SAR (+23.7% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Macao SAR (-1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
