Hand Saw Market Size in Eastern Asia
The East Asian hand saw market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hand saw production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 14%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of hand saws decreased by -16.8% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, hand saw exports dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +43.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), creating a 5% share of total exports. The following exporters - Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - each recorded a 4.2% share of total exports.
China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of hand saws. At the same time, Japan (+6.7%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012-2022. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest hand saw supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7% share.
In China, hand saw exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+3.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Asia
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of hand saws, when their volume decreased by -11.2% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hand saw imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
Japan was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 42% of total imports. South Korea (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 55% share of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Japan increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+7.0%), South Korea (+6.8%) and China (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic People's Republic of Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +7.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.4%) and Hong Kong SAR (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Korea (+8.1 p.p.), China (+6.3 p.p.), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+4.5 p.p.) and Japan (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Taiwan (Chinese) and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -3% and -19.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hand saws in Eastern Asia, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 20% share.
In Japan, hand saw imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (-3.9% per year) and China (+4.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
