From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to tissue paper exports from China stood at +3.0%. At the same time, South Korea (+7.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +7.7% from 2012-2022. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest tissue paper supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 5.8% share.

In China, tissue paper exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-3.8% per year) and South Korea (+6.4% per year).

Overall, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tissue paper imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -3.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Korea (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) represented the major importers of toilet or facial tissue stock, towel and similar paper in 2022, reaching approx. 46% and 32% of total imports, respectively.
