Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +10.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, inactive yeast imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 33%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Korea (X tons) and Japan (X tons) represented the major importers of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms in Eastern Asia, together generating 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), creating a 17% share of total imports. China (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +25.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
