Keyboards Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian keyboards market soared to $X in 2022, jumping by 105% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, keyboards production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Asia

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of keyboards, when their volume decreased by -27.1% to X units. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, keyboards exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took an 8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hong Kong SAR (6.1%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to keyboards exports from China stood at -3.8%. Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1 p.p.) and China (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest keyboards supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

In China, keyboards exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-2.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, keyboards export price increased by +55.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Asia

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of keyboards decreased by -0.5% to X units in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, keyboards imports contracted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

China was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 51% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by South Korea (18%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (7.5%). Japan (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+16.5%) and Japan (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.5%) and Hong Kong SAR (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Korea and China increased by +14 and +9.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest keyboards importing markets in Eastern Asia were China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 76% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +9.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, keyboards import price increased by +51.3% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
