Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 8%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) dropped to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

China was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) in Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 16% share.
In China, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-1.8% per year) and South Korea (+3.1% per year).
