As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, paper label exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 74% of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (5.7%). South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the labels of paper or paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.9%) and South Korea (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest paper label supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.8% share.

In China, paper label exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (-1.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Asia

In 2021, after eight years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of labels of paper or paperboard, when their volume increased by 25% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paper label imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Hong Kong SAR represented the largest importer of labels of paper or paperboard in Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 74% of total imports in 2021. Japan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 6.4% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper label imports into Hong Kong SAR stood at -1.5%. At the same time, Japan (+12.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-1.5%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.6%) and China (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Japan and Hong Kong SAR increased by +8.3 and +5.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported labels of paper or paperboard in Eastern Asia, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Hong Kong SAR stood at -2.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-9.4% per year) and Japan (+6.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 7.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
