Lead Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian lead market fell slightly to $X in 2022, waning by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +21.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 29%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, lead exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.3% against 2020 indices. Exports from South Korea increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2022. In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the largest lead supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 8.8% share.

In South Korea, lead exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+36.6% per year) and Japan (+4.3% per year).

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports in Eastern Asia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lead decreased by -6.2% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lead imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Korea was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 51% of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by China (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +1.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lead in Eastern Asia, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.

In South Korea, lead imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.9% per year) and China (-2.1% per year).
