In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the East Asian lithium-ion accumulator market, when its value decreased by -5.9% to $X. In China, lithium-ion accumulator exports increased at an average annual rate of +22.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+12.1% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+16.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of lithium-ion accumulators increased by 19% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lithium-ion accumulator imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Hong Kong SAR (X units) and China (X units) dominates imports structure, together committing 78% of total imports. South Korea (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.5% share, followed by Japan (9%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), South Korea ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 81% share of total imports.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +24.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, surging by 18% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, lithium-ion accumulator import price increased by +44.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
