Maize Market Size in Eastern Asia

The East Asian maize market rose notably to $X in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. Maize exports shrank notably to X tons in 2022, falling by -40.4% on the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 1,318%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maize exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 840% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together constituting 95% of total exports. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - each finished at a 3.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest maize supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 0.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled -27.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+17.9% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+14.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 323%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
