In 2022, overseas shipments of mineral or aerated waters increased by 29% to X litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mineral or aerated water exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China prevails in exports structure, reaching X litres, which was near 91% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - South Korea (X litres), Japan (X litres) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X litres) - together made up 8.7% of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mineral or aerated waters exports, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Japan (+7.1%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Korea (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest mineral or aerated water supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 4.2% share.
In China, mineral or aerated water exports increased at an average annual rate of +34.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (-2.0% per year) and Japan (-0.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, reducing by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per litre), while China ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -20.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mineral or aerated water imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, the largest mineral or aerated water importing markets in Eastern Asia were China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +21.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
