The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 397% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mixtures of slag imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 180%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Korea prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 79% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons), together comprising a 20% share of total imports.

South Korea was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mixtures of slag imports, with a CAGR of +42.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+21.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Korea (+67 p.p.), Japan (+5.6 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) (-24.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixtures of slag in Eastern Asia, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 18% share.

In South Korea, mixtures of slag imports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+18.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.6% per year).
